A VERY Yancey-Vance Fancy-Pants Gender Reveal Party

If you haven’t heard the news by now, #BabyVance is on the way!! After 10 years together, our little family is growing by one <3

This is our first baby. It’s my families first grandchild. You all know I love to throw a good themed party… and if you didn’t know then you need to check out my nieces first birthday (I still die over the watermelon theme).

And the only person who loves to throw a party more is my mom, so get us teaming up for such a big family moment, and you already know it’s going to be EXTRA AF.

So with it being Valentine’s weekend, we decided to embrace the occasion and went all in on the Sweethearts theme.

The Sweets

The Sweethearts cake was the centerpiece of the dessert table and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

I’m always looking for any excuse to have Christina from Cookies & Buttercream make some custom cookies for an occasion. This was the perfect way to customize our theme!

I love Gigi’s for decorative cupcakes. They’re known for their icing being as tall as their cake. They make such a cute, fun statement, and they nailed the icing colors to match the sweetheart candies for us! Our guests LOVED them.

For a healthier option, my mom found a bulk order of these adorable stemless champagne glasses and filled them with chopped fruit with her famous Amaretto fruit dip.

The Decorations

gender reveal box

I trusted one of my closest friends, Kelsey, to be the “keeper-of-the-gender” and she created this amazing reveal box by covering a wardrobe box with 2 roles of white wrapping paper, and then covered it in little hearts that she made and the letter stickers. In the bottom of the box, she taped the custom ordered heart balloons to the bottom of the box so that they wouldn’t move!

We decided to keep the background simple. Clean, white, seamless paper, and just hung BABY VANCE balloons along the back of it. We ordered these cute girl/boy balloons for our guests to take pictures of their guess and eventually, after the reveal, we just stuck the ‘girl’ balloon up like below!

Plus, what’s a party without a balloon garland?

We decked out the entry with 2 12-foot pastel rainbow balloon garlands that we DIY’ed. It’s actually not hard… just REALLY time consuming. I’ve done several of these now and this was definitely the biggest. Here are some pro tips…

making a DIY balloon garland
behind the scenes!

You can buy a balloon garland kit, like I did, with everything you need. From my experience, I alwaaaays run out of adhesive dots, so I would plan on buying some extra adhesive or double sided tape to make your garland as fluffy as you want. Between 3 of us, it took I’d say about 4 hours to create so I would definitely plan on blowing up all your balloons the night before!

And a friend like Kelsey with an artistic eye for this stuff definitely helps!

Other than the balloons and the backdrop, the food pretty much doubled as decorations!

The Snacks

DIY charcuterie board

Let’s just say there was no shortage of snacks. My mom went INNNNN on this grazing station/larger than life charcuterie! It was a huge hit. She covered her kitchen island in white butcher paper, and built this beautiful arrangement from the inside out. You might recognize some of the serving dishes from my Dining Room Reveal!

shrimp cocktail bites

To give the grazing station some substance she did a few extra special bites like these shrimp cocktail shooters. She ordered the shooter glasses in bulk on amazon and rimmed the glasses with pink Himalayan salt for a subtle festive touch.

Mini Chichen Parms

These mini chicken parms were the hit of all hits! Did you know that you can order cold nuggets from Chick-fil-a with heating instructions so that you can serve them fresh from home???? Yea. You’re welcome. So we grabbed our nuggets from Chick-fil-a, topped them with homemade marinara, a sprinkle of mozzarella, and some parsley, and you have yourself an epic party favorite.

The Reveal

I can’t think of a more memorable way to find out the gender of your first baby!! It was truly a day and a moment I’ll never forget.

Mommy and Daddy cannot wait to meet you, Tatiana! You are ALREADY so loved!
