WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY. The Department of Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Anthropology effective July 1, 2026.

 

Qualifications : An earned Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field is required for the position; ABD candidates are invited to apply. Qualified applicants will demonstrate their ability to teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in cultural anthropology, initiate and sustain original research and scholarship in their area(s) of expertise, and contribute to an academic environment that fosters learning and growth for all its stakeholders. 

 

Position Summary : This individual will be expected to teach courses in cultural anthropology at the undergraduate level, engage in scholarly activities, participate in departmental, College, and University service, and contribute to the Universitys community outreach efforts. The current teaching load is 2/2/2/3.

 

We are interested in teacher-scholars who complement the expertise of our current faculty, with a strong preference for specialties in medical and/or environmental anthropology. Applicants should have an ongoing program of research that is theoretically engaged and ethnographically grounded. Geographic area outside the Americas is preferred.

Wake Forests four-field anthropology department consists of nine permanent faculty and three professional museum staff. Seventy-one percent of majors participate in field- or lab-based research and 31% present original research at professional conferences. Students and faculty also engage with our award-winning and dynamic Lam Museum of Anthropology. Our department has strong interdisciplinary relationships with Latin American and Latino Studies; Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies; Womens, Gender and Sexuality Studies; Linguistics; African American Studies; American Ethnic Studies; Environmental Studies; Cultural Heritage and Preservation Studies, and other academic programs and campus centers.
