The Clinical Research Coordinator facilitates the execution of clinical research projects and may oversee and coordinate other research personnel. This role involves assisting with the selection, enrollment, education, testing, data entry, and monitoring of research participants as well as developing research protocols, collecting and analyzing study data, and contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge through accurate documentation and reporting. When not engaged in clinical research activities, non-research clinical duties will be performed.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in in a life science, healthcare, or related field
  • Two years of related experience in clinical environment/ research

Required Licenses and Certifications
  • Clinical Research Professional (CCRP), Clinical Research Associate (CRA), or Clinical Research Nurse(CRN), or the ability to obtain one of these certifications within 6 months of employment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records
  • Knowledge of research project administration
  • Bilingual English and Spanis
  • Texas Vaccines for Children course completion, Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program), IRB Biomed Basic Course

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines
  • General understanding of electronic medical record systems
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Phlebotomy trained and certified

Responsibilities
  • Research Study Management: Design research protocols and clinical studies in alignment with study objectives and regulatory requirements. Ensure all research activities adhere to approved protocols and relevant institutional, ethical, and regulatory guidelines. Coordinate recruitment, enrollment, and ongoing management of study participants, including overseeing laboratory testing and blood work. Supervise personnel and manage research facilities to support multiple ongoing studies. Conduct interviews to assess participant eligibility and monitor their health status throughout the study. Track and document key clinical data, including but not limited to vital signs, diagnostic test results, and symptom updates. Educate participants on study procedures, medications, and use of devices. Schedule and coordinate appointments with study physicians or other healthcare providers as needed. Advocate for the safety, rights, and informed consent of all research participants.
  • Laboratory and Clinical Support: Complete laboratory requests and distribute results to appropriate physicians/researchers. Retrieve clinical reports from affiliated organizations and ensure timely communication. Screen and manage phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, call in prescription refills, and administer injections as ordered by the provider. Maintain a clean, safe, and infection-free clinical environment, including cleaning exam rooms, equipment, and high-touch surfaces. Set up and assist providers during various clinical procedures to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Research Participant Care: Provide daily patient care, including transferring patients, recording vital signs, and performing health assessments. Organize and adjust physician schedules based on patient and study needs. Conduct follow-up interviews to monitor changes in participant health and update the EMR accordingly. Assist physicians in maintaining complete and accurate patient records.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor medication and supply levels daily; place orders as needed. Maintain accurate inventories and records for all medications, medical supplies, and equipment per clinic policies. Support the cleanliness, organization, and functionality of the clinical and research workspaces.
  • Quality Assurance: Collaborate with research team members in the collection, interpretation, and analysis of clinical research data to ensure validity and reliability of findings. Design and implement Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) protocols across all stages of the research process. Ensure ongoing compliance with institutional review board (IRB) requirements and all applicable ethical standards and regulatory frameworks.
