The International Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing a team of associates who direct the entire import process, from initial order placement to final delivery. This role requires a strong understanding of international trade regulations, customs procedures, and logistics operations. The International Transportation Manager will collaborate closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, finance, production and sales teams to ensure timely and efficient import processes.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement import strategies, including transportation planning and vendor coordination.
Coordinate with freight forwarders and carriers to ensure timely delivery and transportation of goods.
Identify opportunities to optimize shipping costs and improve efficiency through route optimization and consolidation.
Assess and mitigate potential risks, such as supply chain disruptions, and unforeseen circumstances.
Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies in international transportation.
Lead and develop a high-performing international transportation team.
Set clear expectations, provide coaching and mentoring, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as sales, procurement, and logistics, to ensure seamless coordination of international shipments.
Build strong relationships with external partners, including carriers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, International Business, or a related field.
Minimum 10 years of experience in international logistics or related field.
Strong understanding of international transportation and logistics
Knowledge of different modes of transportation (e.g., ocean, air, rail, truck)
Effective communication, including writing, speaking and interpersonal communication
Quick critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Detail oriented and organized with and excellent time management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience with Microsoft Office with a focus on MS Excel
Experience with SAP or some other ERP software
Annual starting salary is $90,000.
