Remote Sign Language Interpreter (School-Based) Nevada

Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified and professional Remote Sign Language Interpreter to provide virtual interpreting services to deaf and hard-of-hearing students in K12 schools across Nevada . This role ensures equitable communication access by delivering real-time American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation of classroom instruction, academic activities, and school interactions through secure video platforms.

Working in collaboration with educators, service providers, and families, the interpreter supports student learning and engagement in accordance with each students Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan.

Key Responsibilities

• Real-Time Interpretation :

• Provide accurate, synchronous ASL interpretation of spoken communication during classroom instruction, small groups, assemblies, and school-related events.

• Adapt interpreting techniques to match the language level and developmental needs of individual students.

• Instructional Support & Collaboration :

• Review lesson plans and instructional content in advance to prepare for interpreting sessions.

• Collaborate with general and special education staff to support student access to curriculum and communication.

• IEP Participation & Student Support :

• Attend IEP or team meetings as needed to provide input on communication goals and accessibility needs.

• Promote student independence and engagement in the virtual classroom environment.

• Professional Conduct & Compliance :

• Follow ethical standards as defined by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and applicable state guidelines.

• Maintain confidentiality and comply with IDEA , ADA , and Nevada Department of Education (NDE) policies.

  Qualifications

  • Education :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associates or bachelors degree in ASL interpreting, deaf studies, or related field preferred.

• Licensure/Certification :

• Must hold a valid Nevada Interpreter License or certification issued by the Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education or the appropriate licensing authority .

• EIPA score of 4.0+ or RID certification (NIC, CI/CT) strongly preferred.

• Experience :

• At least 1 year of experience in educational interpreting preferred.

• Prior experience working remotely in K12 education is a plus.

• Technology Skills :

• Proficiency with virtual platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet.

• Familiarity with digital tools and systems for secure remote interpreting.

  Compensation for this position ranges from $30.38 to $50.38. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
