Overview

Olive Branch Baptist Church of Blackridge, VA is seeking a new senior pastor to lead us as we strive to fulfill our mission to make disciples of our wonderful Savior.

Responsibilities

The senior pastor serves as Christs gift-person to His church in order to equip the saints for the work of the ministry so that we all grow in Christlike maturity (Ephesians 4:11-13). The man serving in this office is called to provide mature leadership as an elder, effective supervision and direction as an overseer, and faithful and humble care as an under-shepherd of the chief Shepherd (Acts 20:17, 28-31; 1 Peter 5:1-4). As the primary equipper of Gods people, he is to work hard at preaching and teaching while the church provides for his needs (1 Timothy 5:17-18). He is also to guard the flock under his watch while serving as an example of a true follower of the Lord Jesus (Acts 20:17, 28-31; 1 Peter 5:1-4).

In keeping with these biblical duties, the following are responsibilities of the senior pastor of Olive Branch Baptist Church:

• Serving as the spiritual leader of the congregation.
• Overseeing the ministries of the church while relying on, working closely with and encouraging the committees and ministry leaders appointed by the church. This includes service as an ex officio member of all committees and organizations.
• Faithfully preaching the full revelation of God in the Scriptures so as to train His people to live out His truth before a watching world.
• Boldly proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and equipping the church to spread His good news in the community.
• Working with worship leaders to plan, coordinate and lead all worship services.
• Leading and preaching at most worship services while arranging for the other pastor(s) and outside speakers to minister as appropriate.
• Planning for and normally officiating the ordinances of believers baptism and the Lords Supper.
• Working with the deacon chairman to provide appropriate training of deacons.
• Meeting regularly with the deacons to pray and coordinate appropriate visitation of and care for the church family, especially those who are homebound, sick, widowed, struggling and hurting.
• Advising the church concerning the creation of staff positions, the selection of staff members, and the determination of their duties.
• Working with the deacon chairman to assist the Enlistment Committee with identifying and recruiting qualified individuals to fill church leadership positions.
• Moderating church business meetings or delegating this responsibility to another mature leader.
• Conducting funeral services and wedding ceremonies.

Qualifications

We are seeking a man of God who:

• Meets the biblical qualifications for service in the office of pastor as set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
• Has been called by the Lord and ordained to serve His church in pastoral ministry.
• Is devoted to his Savior, his Saviors church, and his family.
• Demonstrates a recognized degree of Christian maturity coupled with a heart to serve as Jesus served.
• Has a level of education that has equipped him to preach and teach Gods truth.
• Possesses the skill to communicate the Word in a way that is easy to understand and apply to life.
• Has an amount of experience that proves his readiness to fulfill the role of senior pastor.
• Is able to work collaboratively, lead others effectively, and oversee the proper functioning of an organization.
• Possesses the wisdom to skillfully navigate the challenges of living for Christ in a fallen world while leading a local church.
• Is in full agreement with Olive Branchs Articles of Faith and the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
• Is a United States citizen.
