General Information

• Bed Count : 24
• Shifts : 12-hour shifts, 06:45–18:45
• Scrub Color : Navy Blue
• Orientation : 2–3 shifts unit-specific orientation
• Paperwork Deadline : All paperwork due Wednesday at NOON MST , the week before the start date
• Permanent Address Requirement : Must reside at least 25 miles from the facility

Staffing & Scheduling

• RN-to-Patient Ratios :
  • Days : 1:4
  • Nights : 1:4–5
• Charge Nurse :
  • Days: No patient assignment
  • Nights: May carry 1–2 patients
• Rapid Response Coverage : Yes, via ARR nurse
• Certified Nursing Assistants :
  • Days : 1:8
  • Nights : 1:12
• Scheduling :
  • Self-scheduling available
  • Block scheduling permitted, especially for night shift
• Weekend Requirement : Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month (flexible)
• Holiday Requirement : Alternating schedule across the 6 major holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas)
• Call/Standby : Not required
• Floating : May occur within the facility; equitable with permanent staff

Patient Population & Acuity

• Common Diagnoses & Procedures :
  • Pre-/post-cardiac procedures
  • Femoral and radial catheterizations
  • Cardioversions, post-thoracotomy
  • CABG (24 hours post-op)
  • Post-PCI, post-stent
  • Vascular surgeries
  • NSTEMI
  • Trachs (with BiPAP, CPAP, or home vent – home vent experience not required)
  • Chest tubes
• Cardiothoracic Focus : Yes, high acuity surgical population

Required Skills & Certifications

• Certifications Required :
  • BLS
  • ACLS
• Preferred :
  • NIHSS
• Essential Experience :
  • Cardiac/stepdown specialty background
  • Pre-/post-care for: stents, pacemakers, ICDs, CABG, vascular procedures

Medication Management

• RN Drip Titration :
  • Some drips are titratable
  • Non-titratable : Dobutamine, Dopamine
  • Common Drips : Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Integrilin, Dobutamine, Dopamine
• Telemetry Monitoring :
  • Monitor Techs perform all monitoring and documentation
  • RNs do not need to be telemetry experts
  • Telemetry monitor brand not specified

Respiratory & Equipment

• Equipment Used :
  • CPAP
  • BiPAP
  • Home ventilators (experience not required)

Additional Notes

• Preference for candidates with strong stepdown/cardiac surgical experience
• This unit is not suitable for tele-only nurses
• High acuity, fast-paced environment with a focus on cardiothoracic recovery
